The church was built in 1976 to house the parish that had existed since 1930 but until then it had been using an abandoned mosque. It was dedicated to the Holy Trinity (Agia Triada) as the inhabitants of Prossotsani, who were refugees from Asia Minor, Pontus and Thrace, could not agree on which saint the church would honor. As each group of refugees wanted a different saint, someone suggested the Holy Trinity, that has as many parts as the groups of refugees in the parish.
