The church was founded in 1928 by refugees of Karvali (Gelveri) in Asia Minor (today Güzelyurt) and was completed in 1950. It is cruciform with a dome as it is the old church in Cappadocia and has two bell towers.
Since 1973 it has been listed as a pilgrimage as the refuges, apart from the chandeliers and the epitaph of the church, brought with them most of the relics of Agios Grigorios (St. Gregory) that had been in Cappadocia since 390 AD.
The church celebrates on 25 January, on July 27 and on September 14.
