On main side of this krater (vessel for mixing wine and water), Persephone’s return from the Underworld is depicted. Persephone ascends to earth through a rocky outcrop. She wears a long chiton, himation, and diadem. She is accompanied by the god Hermes. To the right is Hekate (goddess of fertility, magic, and dark things) holding two torches, and at the far right stands Demeter holding a sceptre and waiting for her daughter. She had agreed with Hades that Persephone could spend half of each year with her on earth and the rest of the year with him in the Underworld.
