Roman sarcophagus

Roman sarcophagus of Mikropolis

The sarcophagus, the marble coffin with the inscription from which we learn that a  Roman named Servaeus Eutychus was buried in it, is not only an archeological find. It is an important testimony to Mikropolis as it proves a Roman settlement. For many years, from 1876 to 1970, it served as a wash tub or trough and the priest performed the consecration of the waters on Epiphany.
