It is in the center of Komotini, near Imaret. It is also called the Old Mosque and is an Ottoman monument of about 1608 or, according to an inscription, 1677. It is the largest mosque in Rodopi. During the Bulgarian occupation, it was converted into a church. Τhe French administration of Komotini gave the mosque to the Muslim minority in 1919-1920.
The interior of the mosque is simple with a plain mihrab (sanctuary) and wooden minbar (pulpit). The minaret with its two balconies is impressive.
