Located northwest of Xanthi, in a forest, at an altitude of about 150 meters, below the Byzantine citadel. It is unknown when exactly it was built. The church of the monastery is a Byzantine triangular with a dome, a building of the middle of the 16th c. The church is the oldest monument of Xanthi and dates back to the end of the 9th century.
The monastery was demolished by an earthquake and was later rebuilt. Later, a new building was added next to the old church which, since 1946, has hosted the Ecclesiastical School.
