On the reverse of a bronze coin dated to the time of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (ruled between 218 and 222 AD), also known as Elagabalus, a young male figure is depicted, identified with Haimos, the mythical king of Thrace and husband of Rhodope, who was transformed into a mountain by the gods. Haimos sits on a rock, reclining on a tree and looking back. Behind him, a stag is jumping to the right, and a bear is emerging from a cave on the rock that he sits on. The coin was issued by the Mint of Nicopolis ad Istrum, when Nobius Rufus was consul of the Province of Moesia, as it is read on the inscription ΥΠ ΝΟΒΙΟΥ ΡΟΥΦΟΥ ΝΙΚΟΠΟΛΙΤΩΝ ΠΡΟC ΙCΤΡΟΝ (or ΙCΤΡΩ).

On the obverse, there is a portrait of the emperor Elagabalus. There is also an inscription with his name, Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, (ΑΥΤ (Κ) Μ ΑΥΡ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ).
