Phyllis and Demophon

In a wall painting of a Pompeian house that has not survived, Phyllis, the Thracian princess and daughter of the king of Bisaltae, was probably depicted embracing a young warrior, Demophon, son of Theseus. The couple stands in front of an fire altar, housed under a luxurious structure. A female figure is hovering over the altar. Αnother warrior stands οn the left and on the right, there is a girl running. The landscape in the background is rocky, and the goddess Athena appears in the sky.

It has been proposed that the two embracing figures could, alternatively, be Jason and Medeia, Protesilaos and Laodameia, or Kadmos and Harmonia.
