The small church used to be a mosque before 1922. The neighboring building was a Muslim seminary. When refugees settled in the area they converted the mosque into a Christian church and dedicated it to Agios Georgios. They modified the minaret into a bell tower. After the collapse of the temple in 1961, many years passed until the new church was rebuilt in 2011.

In the church they placed the relics they brought from their homeland.
