The abduction of Oreithyia by Boreas

Attic plastic lekythos from Tanagra with the abduction of Oreithyia by Boreas, early 4th c. BC

This terracotta lekythos bears a plastic decoration (figures moulded in clay). Boreas and Oreithyia are depicted. Boreas is a winged young man. He wears chiton, chlamys and boots. He grabs with both hands the daughter of Erechtheus, the mythical king of Athens. The young Oreithyia lies naked on the ground and raises both her hands in a help-seeking gesture.
