On an ochanon (shield-band, handle of a shield) of an Argive-type shield found at a sanctuary of Oisyme near modern Kavala, a muscular Boreas is depicted kneeling and wearing a short chiton. His stance is the conventional way Archaic artists depicted running (εν γουνασι δρομος, running with raised knees). In total, three metopes (square decorated spaces) are preserved from the decorations of the shield-band. Boreas is depicted in the second metope. In the first metope, Zeus is about to strike Typhon with a thunderbolt, while a man’s head is the only thing preserved in the third.
