On main side of this hydria, the winged Boreas is depicted abducting Oreithyia. He is naked, only a himation covers the lower part of his body. He is trying to catch her with his hands, while she is running to the right trying to avoid him. A second woman is running behind the persecutor, in the opposite direction. The inscription ΩΡΕΙΘΥΙΑ (Oreithyia) can be read between the two central figures.
This hydria was on of the ritual vessels that were used during a burial rite. Firstly, its liquid content was offered to the deceased and then, in a symbolic act, the hydria was smashed into many pieces and, along with other vases and offerings, it was buried under a pile of stones.
