The decoration of the vase unfolds in two zones. Rhodope is depicted in the center of the lower zone of the krater. She wears a chiton tied at the waist, a folded himation that covers the head, and sandals. King Skythes, seated on his throne, is depicted on the left and the mythical hero Herakles resting on his club on the right. The Amazons Hippolyte and Antiope are standing next to Herakles. On the upper zone, the goddess Artemis is depicted in the center, seated on her altar. A statue of the goddess has been erected right next to it. Pan and Apollo are to the left, and Aphrodite and Eros are to the right. All figures are identified by inscriptions. It is very possible that the painter was inspired by a tragedy.
