The oldest village of Thassos, built at an altitude of 500 meters. It is one of the most atmospheric places on the island, with breathtaking views. It gives the visitor the impression that time has stopped. It was named after the castle of the settlement, which dates back to 1403 and contributed decisively to the protection of the village from pirate attacks.

The church of Agios Athanasios, built in 40 days, in 1804, with the permission of the Sultan, is the most important sight of the settlement. In fact, stones from the castle wall were used for its construction.
