Pontian Genocide Memorial (Alexandroupolis) 

In memory of the Pontian genocide

The Genocide Memorial of the Pontian Hellenism in Alexandroupolis the sculptor Georgios Kikotis was inaugurated in 2008. The central figure of the composition is the Pontian fighter. Below, relief representations of the uprooted people leaving Pontos behind, symbolized by the monastery of Panagia Soumela. On the right in relief, Pontians dancing the ancient Greek warlike dance, pyrrhic to the sounds of the lyre.

The statue is the focal point of events in honor of the Pontian Hellenism. Wreath-laying ceremonies are held here for the victims of the genocide on the 19th May, the day of commemoration of the  genocide of the Greeks in Asia Minor.
