Monument to Hatzi Antonis and Domna Visvizis 

For the national heroes from Ainos

The Monument in the Lighthouse Square of Alexandroupolis is dedicated to the heroes of the 1821 Revolution Hatzi Antonis and his wife Domna Visvizis.

Domna was born in 1783 and was the daughter of a wealthy family of Ainos in Eastern Thrace. She married the member of the Society of Friends, the shipowner Hatzi Antonis Visvizis. Their ship, Kalomira, and all their property went into the service of the Revolution.

After her husband's death in 1822 during the siege of Euboea, she took command of the ship and took part in naval battles or transporting ammunition. She died in 1849 poor in Piraeus.
