The seamanship of Kavala sailors
The Maritime Museum of Kavala hosts objects and relics related to the sea and the maritime history of the city. Most of the exhibits are donated by residents, shipowners and institutions such as the Ministry of Merchant Marine and the War Museum.
Among the exhibits the visitor will see small boats, paintings by local painters. The themes of the paintings are of course the sea and the naval life. Copies and replicas of old ships, nautical instruments used by sailors in navigation and parts of ships. Tools for the construction and repair of ships. Various nautical documents, such as ship's logbooks, nautical manuals and seaman's identity books. Finally, photographs of the sea and the port of the city.
The museum is housed on the ground floor of the Municipal tobacco warehouse. It is a historic building from 1900 that belonged to the Turkish tobacco merchant Kiazim Emin.
