Folklore in Theologos
The folklore museum of Theologos in Thassos is housed in the two-story mansion of Metaxas Hatzigiorgis. The exhibits come from donations of the residents of Theologos. In the outdoor areas and on the ground floor, tools and utilitarian objects of the rural life of the inhabitants are exhibited, as well as many tools of craftsmen of various trades. In the courtyard of the mansion, events and cultural activities take place.
On the first floor the rooms are arranged in a typical Thassos house. The bedroom, the oda, which was the living room and the housewife's room with the loom and other tools of cottage industry. In addition to the furniture, the representation of the house is decorated with numerous objects, weavings and clothing. The mansion is a typical example of local architecture and is in itself an exhibit and an ornament to the area. It belonged to the first chieftain of Thassos, chieftain Metaxas Hatzigiorgis. His contribution to the revolution of 1821 was great.
The museum is run by the cultural association Hatzigiorgis.
