Travelling mentally to Byzantine Drama
Around the 10th century AD, Drama developed, playing an important role in the commercial and defensive life of the Byzantine Empire. For the protection of the city, walls with a perimeter of about 850 m were built, occupying an area of 45 acres. In the turbulent centuries that followed, Drama changed many rulers and the walls were often damaged.
Initially the walls were 14 m high and, depending on the area, 1,70 m to 3,30 m thick.
A tour along the wall will take you back to the Byzantine times.
