The common pipistrelle (Latin Pipistrellus pipistrellus) is a mammal - one of the smallest bats, that is widespread all-over the Balkans. It is a nocturnal species, that is, it hunts at night and is less active all day long. The common pipistrelle has adapted to the urban environment; it finds shelter in the interior of abandoned buildings or on the roofs of houses.
It hibernates from October to March, although it has sometimes been observed flying even in winter.
