Mouse-eared bat

The mouse-eared bat (Latin Myotis myotis) is a mammal - a species of bat that is widespread all over Europe. It is one of the largest bats in Greece. In Thrace, it lives in colonies of a few tens to hundreds of individuals, in habitats such as caves and mines in the areas of Evros, Rhodope, and Xanthi.

One fascinating fact: after years of extensive observation and research, scientists discovered that the mouse-eared bat imitates the sounds of stinging bees or wasps to discourage its avian predators!
