The ruins of Avas Castle are located on a steep cliff, north of the village of Avas. Its alternative name, Kereopyrgos, has been given because it was thought possible that the Byzantine city of the same name was built here, but this has not been proven.

Access to the fortification area is not very easy because of the dense vegetation.
