The European hop-hornbeam (lat. Ostrya carpinifolia) is a deciduous tree that is widespread in the Mediterranean region of southern Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, Lebanon, and the Caucasus. It has double-toothed leaves and reaches up to 25 meters in height. It is a common species in Greece, where it occurs in mountainous or semi-mountainous areas and in habitats such as forests or forest glades, on stony slopes, and ravines.
It blooms from April - May.
