The Cornelian cherry (lat. Cornus mas), also known as the European cornel or Cornelian cherry dogwood is a medium-to-large deciduous shrub or small tree that is widespread in South Europe and South-west Asia. It has been known since antiquity for its healing properties. According to Homer, Kriki transformed Odysseus's companions into pigs by giving them the fruit of the cornelian cherry.
