The common juniper (lat. Juniperus communis) is a small tree or shrub that is widespread all over the Northern hemisphere. In Greece, it is common on the mainland, in meadows and forests, and at altitudes of 800-1600 meters. It has characteristic needle-like leaves, whereas juniper wood is known for its tough properties. Its fruits are used in cooking and medicine.
