Yperkalos Pyrgos (Tower)

The "most beautiful" tower of Christopolis

This tower is adjacent to the walls of the citadel. It belongs to the fortifications of the Byzantine city, that of Christopolis, as Kavala was called then, and dates back to the 9th century. The lower part of the tower belongs to the early Christian period ((4th-7th c. AD). After the radical reconstruction of the castle of Kavala in 1425 by the Ottomans, the tower remained.

Its name, which means 'very beautiful', is due to an inscription on the tower. For its construction, material in second use has been used.
