Silk Museum

Unraveling the secrets of an eternal art

The Silk Museum is housed in the Kourtidis mansion, built in 1883, and in the neighboring two-story building, the "cocoon house", in Soufli. It has been operating since 1990 and is dedicated to silk. The visitor through the exhibits, the photos and the audiovisual projections can learn the process of silk production. Silkworm breeding, sericulture, silk processing and pre-industrial silk weaving are revived in the Museum premises. Traditional costumes complete the production stages while together with the other audiovisual media they unfold the thread of the history of the place and the importance this material played in the economy of the region.
