The sanctuary of Heracles (Hercules) in the archeological site of city of ancient Thassos dates back to the 6th century BC. At that time the oldest temple was constructed, while in the 5th century BC was covered and a new one was built in the same place. In the sanctuary there was an altar and a stoa. The arch of Caracalla, in the 3rd century AD, connected the agora of Thassos with the sanctuary.
