Works of art in the Macedonian residence of Xanthi
The Municipal Gallery of Xanthi is housed in the old residence of the Kalevra family. Built in the middle of the 19th century, in the old town of Xanthi, the house attracts the attention of passers-by with the simple beauty of its traditional Macedonian architecture. The main feature is the sachnisia (erker), the projections supported by the wooden beams, beyond the boundaries of the masonry of the ground floor. Carved wood ceilings and ceiling paintings decorate the interior.
The name 'Christos Pavlidis' is due to the painter from Xanthi who donated many of his paintings, which form the permanent collection. At the same time, the space hosts other exhibitions of artists and other cultural events.
