The Hungarian oak (lat. Quercus frainetto) is a species of oak that is endemic to the Balkan Peninsula, Italy, Hungary and Northwest Turkey. In Greece, it occurs in Thrace, the Peloponnese, and other areas. It is a deciduous tree, that normally reaches a height of up to 25 meters. It is distinguished from other oak species by the size of its leaves.
It is the most important species of oak in Greece since its wood is used both in furniture making and as firewood. The oak is protected by European legislation.
