The lesser spotted eagle (lat. Aquila pomarina) is a bird of prey. It is a fairly widespread, locally common, summer visitor and a passage migrant in Greece. Today, the species lives mainly in northern and - rarely - in central Greece. It nests on trees in lowland and semi-lowland forests, near freshwater wetlands (i.e., rivers, streams, swamps, etc.), where it seeks its food; it feeds on reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, birds, large insects, and rarely on carrion.
