Black kite

The Black kite (lat. Milvus migrans) is a medium-sized migratory bird of prey, with dark blond feathers, a whitish-streaked head, narrow wings, and a forked tail. It has a wide distribution throughout the temperate and tropical areas all over the globe, from Eurasia and Africa to Australia and Oceania. In Greece, it is found in large wetlands, such as the Evros Delta, where it nests on trees from mid-April to September; it then migrates to Africa.

It feeds mainly on carcasses and dead fish. However, it also hunts smaller birds or small animals, such as rodents and hares.

In recent years, black kite populations are constantly declining.
