The little ringed plover (latin Charadrius dubius) is a small wading bird, with a characteristic voice. Its back, the color of sand, allows it to go unnoticed in its habitat as it nests mainly in small hollows in the ground, on sandbanks and gravel pits (riverbeds or shores of lakes), and less often in lagoons. Its belly and chest are pure white in contrast to its thin, black "collar", the black "mask" around its eyes, and the black and white markings on the forehead. Its name is due to the thin yellow ring around its eyes.
It is a migratory bird that travels to Africa to spend the winter.
