Wild goat

The wild goat (lat. Capra aegagrus) is a mammal inhabiting forests, shrublands, and rocky areas throughout Europe and Turkey in the west, to Caucasus, Afghanistan, and Pakistan in the east. It is the ancestor of the domestic goat. It is a ruminant animal, that is, it is herbivorous that ruminates, that is, it chews its food. Its characteristic feature is its horns. The female is smaller in size than the male, with smaller horns.

Male wild goats are normally solitary while females and young live in small flocks of up to 15 individuals. It has been listed as near threatened species - especially due to the destruction and degradation of its habitat.

It should not be confused with chamois.
