The Eurasian spoonbill (lat. Platalea leucorodia) is a species of stork-like bird that lives and nests in wetlands with rich reeds. Eurasian spoonbills show a preference for extensive shallow, wetlands with muddy, clay, or fine sandy beds. They are widespread throughout Europe. Most birds migrate to the tropics in winter, with European breeders mainly going to Africa. In the region of Thrace, the Eurasian spoonbill usually builds its nest in wetland habitats such as the Nestos Delta, and in the wetlands of Porto Lagos.
