A grave of the Hellenistic period in Drama
One of the few monuments found in Drama from the Hellenistic period (4th-1st c. BC) is the tomb at the intersection of Troias and Paleologos streets. Like all Hellenistic tombs it consists of three main parts:
Its roof and superstructure are not saved. Three sarcophagi were found, arranged in Π shape, along with their slate covers, which were moved and broken. Inside the sarcophagi, in addition to the charred bones, vessels, pottery, jewelry and coins were found, dating from the 3rd century BC until the 1st c. BC. Most of the coins show extensive use of the tomb between the years 187 BC and 31 BC. The duration of use of the tomb for about two centuries testifies that the tomb was in constant use and its condition proves the attempted looting.
