Ashure

Ashure - also known among the Muslims as Noah's pudding - is a dessert porridge that is made of a mixture of grains, fruits, dried fruits, and nuts. It is similar to the Varvara dessert that is popular among the Christian populations. Sufi Muslims make the dish during the month of Muharram to celebrate the Day of Ashura, 40 days after Kurban - Bairam. According to tradition, the porridge is made at home out of 40 different ingredients and is cooked in large quantities to commemorate the landing of Noah's ark. It is typically served hot with cinnamon.

The sweet pudding is traditionally shared by both Muslim and Christian friends, relatives, and neighbors.
