Summer snowflake or Loddon lily (lat. Leucojum aestivum) is a perennial bulbous plant, with big strap-shaped leaves and beautiful white flowers. It is widespread in Europe from Ireland and central Europe to Italy and Greece. It grows in clusters, in damp places, such as wet meadows, swamps, and ditches. In Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, it is found around Evros Delta, in the regional unit of Xanthi, and in the islands of Thassos and Samothrace.
It blooms from late March to mid-May.
It is included in the Red Data Book of Rare & Endangered Plants of Greece and is labeled as 'vulnerable', since today it is particularly endangered by droughts and modern agriculture-related activities.
