A custom celebrated on Shrove Monday in Xylagani, Rodopi. The word refers to the village guilds: blacksmiths, carpenters, butchers, grocers, who on this day contribute financially. The custom has roots in Eastern Romilia and Eastern Thrace, and was brought here by refugees.
Celebrations begin on the morning of Shrove Monday when the leader of the carnival marks all the professionals on the head and invites everyone to come to the village square. Events include a representation of a wedding with satirical elements, and a satire of agricultural work. This is followed by a feast of fasting food and a party with musical instruments and dancing until morning.
