Stinking juniper (lat. Juniperus foetidissima) is a small-sized tree or shrub which grows in stony and barren soils, subalpine meadows, at high altitudes of 800-2300 meters. It is a species that is widespread in South East Europe. It blooms from March to April.
Its leaves and flowers have a characteristically unpleasant smell. This widespread species is not threatened with extinction, however, overgrazing and an increase in fire frequency may be locally problematic.
