A dish from the Thracian Sea that smells like summer!
It is a delicacy that is very popular in Kavala - a city renowned for its local cuisine that is a combination of traditional Macedonian recipes with gastronomic influences from Pontus, Asia Minor, and Cappadocia. Fresh anchovies from the Thracian Sea are wrapped in vine leaves and seasoned with olive oil and garlic; they are roasted for a few minutes and served with fresh lemon juice.
This delicious dish is ideally accompanied by local, and rich in aromas wines from Kavala or Thassos, or with the local wine of Paggaio. The latter is the descendant of the mythical wine of Mount Paggaio, which Odysseus used to deceive Cyclops Polyphemus in order to save his comrades.
