The smooth newt (lat. Triturus vulgaris) also known as the European newt, is a nocturnal amphibian, a species of newt with a wide distribution in Europe and parts of Asia. In Greece, it occurs in the Nestos area. It lives in wetlands, forests, gardens, and cultivated fields, hiding under stones, tree trunks, and rock crevices.
