Field maple (lat. Acer campestre L.) is a deciduous tree or shrub, that grows up to a height of 15 meters tall. It grows throughout Central and Southern Europe, in northwestern Africa, and even in western Asia. In Thrace, maples of this species are found in the valley of Echinos village, around Lake Vistonida, in the area of Avantas and Metaxades, in the Forest of Dadia, and along the banks of Ardas river. Once the stem and leaves of the plant are cut, a lactic fluid exudes.
