The acidic peatland of Haidou Xanthi is a woodland habitat very close to the settlement of Leivaditis; it covers an area with a circumference of about 3 kilometers. It is rich in vegetation with spruce and common juniper trees, black pines, willows, and grey alders; many rare plants like orchids also grow here. The peatland is the habitat for one of the rarest plants in Greece, namely the carnivorous plant Drosera rotundifolia.
The area is rich in fauna. Various species of birds live here, as for example the hazel grouse, the three-toed woodpecker, and the spotted nutcracker. The peatland is the habitat for various common species like the short-toed snake eagle, the pern, the common buzzard, the peregrine falcon.
