Bulgarian fir

Bulgarian fir (Abies Borisii-regis), also known as Boris fir, is a large evergreen coniferous tree with needle-like leaves. It has the shape of a pyramid and grows to 45 meters tall.  Its scientific name was given after Tsar Boris III of Bulgaria, during whose reign it was described as a new species.

Bulgarian firs are native to the mountains of the Balkan peninsula.  In Greece, they occur at altitudes of 800–1800 meters and on the mountains of Northern Greece. In Thrace, Bulgarian firs spread throughout the Virgin Forest of Fraktos.

It blooms from April to June.
