Water chestnut (Lat. trapa natans) is an aquatic plant that grows in swamps. Its bulb is small, with crisp white flesh, and it grows under the mud; it can be consumed raw, boiled, roasted, or pickled.
It is widespread in areas such as the Nestos Delta, Porto Lagos, Lake Mitrikou, and on both sides of the Evros river.
