The lesser white-fronted goose (lat. Anser erythropus) is the rarest species of goose living in Europe. It is a small-sized goose with a characteristic short, pink beak, short and dark brown neck, and a distinctive bright-yellow ring around its eyes. In Greece, the dwarf goose winters in the wetlands of Northern Greece until mid-March, when it begins its journey back to Norway and even further north towards its breeding areas.
In Greece, the population of lesser white-fronted geese is constantly declining. The species is mentioned in the Red Book of Endangered Vertebrates of Greece, as it is mainly threatened by poaching.
