Two Kabeiroi

  • thumb_img
  • thumb_img

Mould-made pottery lamp of the Roman Period. The top surface of the lamp’s body is decorated with two male figures, either the Kabeiroi or Dioscuroi, Castor and Pollux (usually they are difficult to be identified with certainty, since they have similar features and they are depicted in pairs). Both are depicted side by side, bearded and wearing pilos (caps with a conical shape) surmounted by crosses. Their bodies are schematically rendered. On the lamp’s base there is the impressed inscription C.OPPI.RES, which is the potter’s name C. Oppius Restitutus abbreviated.
