The European herring gull (lat. Larus argentatus) is a fairly large type of gull that is widespread across Eurasia and North America. It is a migratory bird that prefers coastal or inland areas near bodies of water. Occasionally, the European herring gull prefers to live and breed in coastal urban areas, nesting on roofs and eating urban waste. The most important habitat requirements are the nearby presence of a food source, distance from major predators, and shelter from prevailing winds.
In the area of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, the European herring gull is located in the areas around the lakes Lafri and Lafrouda, and near the lakes of the Rhodope area.
The species is not threatened - on the contrary: it is a threat to other species.
