Keramoti lagoon is part of the wetland complex of the River Nestos Delta and surrounds the Keramoti village as it extends from the east side to the west of the village. The main road toward the village passes via a bridge over the lagoon. The construction of the bridge affects the proper water movement inside the lagoon, forming a new pressure to the normal function of the lagoon.
The whole area is part of the Natura 2000 Network, since various migratory species of birds, flamingos, pine egrets, and gulls find shelter here. At the same time, the local Fishermen Cooperative has been commercially exploiting the lagoon resources for decades and high-quality products that are channeled daily on the market.
